Things to do for Families in Amsterdam

Moeders, Jordaan & Westerpark

If you want a taste of traditional Dutch food, this is the place to go. A small but very cozy restaurant, Moeders offers several Dutch specialties (hachée, suddervlees en stamppot) and some international dishes as well. If you are unsure of what to get try the Hollandse Rijsttafel, a variety of Dutch delicacies

De Kattenkabinet, Centre

The Cat Cabinet, located on the Herengracht, specialises in art about cats. Sculptures, paintings, posters and books about felines are exhibited here in a serious way. A wealthy Dutchman wanted to preserve the memory of his tom cat, so he built this museum as a memorial to his furry friend.

The Cultuurpark Westergasfabriek, Jordaan & Westerpark

Culture, history, relaxation and nature. All of these work surprisingly well here and it's also very family friendly. This city park boasts great venues for events and exhibitions, a film theatre, historical factory buildings, a great place to cycle/walk and a range of cafes and bars. Their monthly Sunday market is one not to be missed.

The Artis Zoo, Centre

Founded in 1838, the Artis Zoo is the oldest in Holland. It consists of four main areas: Zoo, Planetarium, Botanical Gardens and Geological and Zoological museum. The zoo itself is home to animals from more than 900 species. In addition, a unique aquarium shows you the animals that roam Amsterdam’s canals. In the peaceful gardens, you can find many old trees and statues of contemporary artists, as well as a truly impressive, tropical rainforest greenhouse.

Brouwerij ‘t IJ ,

Brouwerij ‘t IJ is a brewery with its tasting room in a windmill. Located in a more remote spot outside the city centre, it’s a popular haunt for locals. They brew seven beers all year round but their draught beer range varies with the season. A good place for sitting outside in the summer
