Berlin - Charlottenburg

Charlottenburg was known as the former centre of West Berlin, and many people still consider it to be  Berlin’s focal point.Charlottenburg is one of Berlin’s most affluent areas where you’ll see a lot of well turned out people. Indeed, Charlottenburg has a more sophisticated, mature feel to it than the other  districts. It is home to a number of very fine restaurants notably around the Savigny Platz area, where you’ll also find some interesting clothes & furniture shops. Architecture-wise, you’ll find a lot of classic style buildings dating back from the 1900’s with their imposing entrances and high ceilings as well as grand old theatres which still grace its streets. It is a great place to stay for a peaceful night’s sleep and is also a stone’s throw away from all of the Berlin attractions.

Close to Charlottenburg is the glorious Tiergarten, one of Berlin’s largest parks and home to one of Europe’s most diverse zoos. It is also a popular location during the summer months to take a stroll in, sunbathe or to have a picnic.Charlottenburg  also plays host to a number of large scale international events in Berlin Messe, the trade show hall.  For example Grüne Woche, green week, takes place in January 2009 and the ITB, the international tourist fair, will also be hosted there in March 2009. The international world athletics field & track event 2009 will be held in Berlin’s Olympic Stadium, which is also located in Charlottenburg.
