Kreuzberg - Where to Stay in Berlin

Kreuzberg - Where to stay in Berlin? Sometimes it's difficult to decide which area to stay in and then find nearby accommodation. This guide will help! Here are our personal recommendation of hand picked accommodation in Kreuzberg or use our search engine on the left to find a selection of Apartments, Guest Rooms & B&B's in Kreuzberg.

Kreuzberg is one of our favourite districts. Maybe it's because in our first summer of 2006 we stayed in the Bergmannkiez neighbourhood when we were in the giddy heights of a full on love affair with our new home. We suggest this studio flat for 2 close to Bergmannstrasse. I think for me the reason I love Krezuberg so much is because of the cross section of different types of people combined with cheap places to eat out!  It's split into two distinct areas, based on the old post code system. Kreuzberg 61, Bergmannkiez where we stayed is a somewhat affluent but non-prentious neighbourhood. Then there's Kreuzberg 36 and Neukölln, less affluent, but now the trendy hot spot for artists and a favourite place for where the hipsters hang!

Bergmannkiez is in the Kreuzberg 61 postcode. it has a laid back bohemian flair about it but it's only a few underground stops away from all the main attractions. This massive flat is great if you are a group of 13 people. It's a 5 bed family apartment in Kreuzberg 61. There are young, old, Turkish, German, hippie types and families who all enjoy what the area offers. On Bergmannstrasse there are lot of restaurants, cafes and  little boutique clothes shops - that my mum likes, antique stalls which are great to pick up some vintage jewellery and furniture places if you're looking to buy an oak wardrobe! In the area area also a couple of playgrounds and a big indoor market & square. There is something for everyone. from our old favourite rock n' roll hang out, Pörx pub on Fürbringerstrasse to beautifully restored, breathtaking apartment buildings and fabulous eateries on Chamissoplatz. But what makes the area around here really special is Victoria Park and the glorious view of Berlin . We would often stop on the way down in the little Irish pub called the Blarney for a swift Guiness. If you like Jazz & Blues, then you can do no better than heading down to the Yorkschlosschen on Yorkstrasse of an evening. I  think if you are looking at where to stay in Berlin, Kreuzberg and you are a couple or a familiy, mother & daughter holiday who enjoy a lively area full of Berliner charm, then this is the spot for you. Take a look at this flat for 4 near to Victoria Park & Mehringdam

The other side of Kreuzberg is called Kreuzberg 36 and has two main areas. Around Görlitzerbahnhof (Schlesischestrasse, Oranienstrasse & Wrangle kiez) and Neukoelln. Many of our friends really like living and staying in this part of Kreuzberg where so many different cultures and walks of life shape its environment. If you are looking for a cheap option that is close to the action we recommend these Budget Studio Apartments close to Oranienstrasse and Cheap Guest House close to Schlesischestrasse. As well as the Turkish locals, there are  lots of new people moving to Kreuzberg and Neukoelln on a daily basis. Mainly artists looking for cheap rent or gallery space, the English who aliken it to Hackney. Lots of Spanish have recently set up bars especially in the Neukoelln area of Weserstrasse so do practice some Spanish before coming to Wesertrasse! Worth taking a look at is this delightful little studio flat on Weser strasse

. Oranienstrasse , is also a packed street full of bars with great German restaurants plus, of course a mobile disco cycle man! Schlesischestrasse has a similar vibe (but not as good restaurants). One of the highlights on Schlesischestrasse is however  the Badeschiff (sunken posers swimming pool in the river) and nearby the Freischwimmer restaurant. We used to take a lot of our friends who visited us there for a bite, which is conviently located opposite Club der Visionäre (a cool, late night, open air techno bar). Or if you prefer live music, or indie-disco head to the Lido venue. Another special place is Paul Linke Ufer and the canal road opposite , Maybachufer, which hosts a lively Turkish market on Tuesdays and Fridays.

It's also just an incredible wonderful place to sit on the banks of the canal during the day and sup an Aloha drink in the sunshine. In the evenings, we usually go out for our drinks around Maybachufer and in one of our other favourite areas on the other side of Kottbusser Tor, Graefekiez. A few streets (Dieffenbach strasse, Gräfestrasse, Kortestrasse) are packed
with great little restaurants, cafes and quirky little shops, well worth a visit for a daytime coffee or evening drink.

If you are a young at heart group of friends or couple who enjoy nightlife and creative artistic people, then this part of Kreuzberg is where you should stay. We offer short term accommodation in Kreuzberg on Weserstrasse and Graefekiez.

Insider Tip :the open air cinema in the summer on Mariennplatz in Kreuzberg 36 often shows films in their original language. Get there early to grab one of the deckchairs and you can bring your own drinks!
