We always enjoy visiting Edinburgh, especially during the Edinburgh festival. We try and stay somewhere different each time. From the hustle and bustle of the Old and New Town to beautiful Stockbridge. Here's our guide to help.

New Town, where to stay in Edinburgh

Stretching down the hill from Princes Street is Edinburgh’s famous New Town. The Old Town, just the other side of what was then the Nor Loch (north loch) and is now Princes Street Gardens, was hopelessly crowded by the 17th century, and expansion was essential. Built over almost a hundred years starting in the final decades of the 18th century, Edinburgh's New Town retains the uniform streets, neo-classical buildings and elegant squares that made it a masterful piece of town planning. Sandwiched between Waverly and Haymarket railway stations, is Edinburgh's West End. It's one of the easiest areas to get to, and never more than 20 minute’s walk from Princes Street. It remains a step off the beaten tourist track. Stockbridge, where to stay in Edinburgh

One of Edinburgh’s most desirable areas for young professionals & families, Stockbridge has a charming village feel to it. It is nestled around the Water of Leith between Comely Bank and the New Town (stock brig means ‘timber bridge’ in Scots). This relatively small zone is still home to many independent shops, including butchers, fishmongers and cheesemongers, as well as a thriving artisan market every Sunday. Read more...
