As the capital of one of Europe’s greenest economies, it stands to reason the world's biggest fair for food, agriculture and horticulture should take place in Berlin. Amazingly, the first International Green Week (IGW) took place almost a century ago in 1926, and despite a few interruptions, is celebrating its 78th year in 2013. The show features all manner of wonderful food and drink items, all united in their eco-friendliness. From beer, wine and spirits to seafood, horticultural machinery to pets, IGW is a playground for the ethical consumer, and one of the biggest annual opportunities for trade visitors. As if that wasn’t enough, the week also features a supporting programme of seminars, talks and workshops, as well as hosting the Global Forum for Food and Agriculture (GFFA) with more than 60 departmental ministers.
