Oud West sits just outside the canal belt to the west and hovers above the old south and De Pijp. It follows the main thoroughfare of Overtoom conecting the centre and Kinkerstraat, which is one of Amsterdam's busiest shopping streets with lots of high-end designer brands represented.
The main point of interest in this wonderful area is the Vondel Park, the main city park of Amsterdam which is great for taking a stroll, as are the surrounding streets with their fabulous classical architecture and relaxing street cafés. There's a lot of small independent eateries and restaurants here where you can find some culinary delights at fairly reasonable prices compared to inside the canal belt which is just a short walk away.
It's a large area and consists of a number of small neighbourhoods, all worth exploring. Attractions to be found in Oud West include: EYE, the Netherlands cinematic institute for film, Ten Katemarket, Hollandsche Menage riding school.
